Pikes Peak State Park, Iowa
It was an early spring trip to Pikes Peak State Park in North West Iowa along the border with Wisconsin when these photos were taken. As far north on the Mississippi River we are, it is surprising how wide the river is. Little sliver islands dot the water and signs of life in Wisconsin can be seen on the far banks. Pikes Peak is located a short drive south of Effigy Mounds National Monument which is an equally stunning park. Both parks are located near McGregor, IA and Praire Du Chien, WI. Both towns are very accommodating to tourists and offer a variety of sites to see. There are many cabins, motels, and houses for rent in the area. If you are a few hours drive it is definitely worth the trip.
